The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway was a leader in developing unit trains, and quickly realized that such trains also needed run-thru yards, as no classification was needed. This southward view was recorded soon after the yard at Temple, Texas, was finished in mid-1985. The two outer tracks are occupied by southbound trains in the distance. Seen here are grain, grain, coal, and intermodal trainsl. It was also no accident that Temple was selected as the location, as this is the junction of midwest and western Santa Fe lines.
