Summer 2026 Railroad Heritage: Special railroad bridges edition

Lovers of bridges and railroad photography will be overjoyed with the Summer 2026 issue of Railroad Heritage, our quarterly journal. In this unique issue, we devote most of it to the single topic of railroad bridges. Author Todd Halamka approaches the subject with an architect’s eye through his stunning photography, spanning the U.S. and parts of Europe. Also featured is a two-page illustrated guide to common types of railroad bridges by design and material.

Other highlights include:

  • Out of the Archives: A twelve-page showcase of classic railroad bridge photography from the Center’s archives (the smallest fraction of what they contain!).
  • Conversations 2026: Elrond Lawrence looks back at the Conversations 2026 conference, a rare departure from our longtime venue of Lake Forest College in Illinois for the Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis.
  • In Memoriam: Full-page tributes to two giants of our community lost in May: renowned photographer David Plowden and CRP&A’s longest-serving board member, David Kahler.
  • News about Conversations Colorado: A special one-day conference at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden on August 21-22.

And more! Order this issue here. If you’re not a member, join today and get four issues a year.
