Issue No. 2: Roy Stryker and the Steam/Diesel Transition

$9.75

After addressing the question of “why an archive,” editor John Gruber examines the unique railroad photography of John Walker Barriger III. He also recognizes James P. Gallagher’s photography and his award from the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society, the success of the Starlight on the Rails exhibition, and the 19th-century railroad photography of Henry Hamilton Bennett. Don Arends spotlights the Miner family’s railroad art collection with its thirty-nine original Howard Fogg paintings. Robert Doherty, former director at the George Eastman House, looks at Roy Stryker’s leadership of the Farm Security Administration and Office of War Information documentary photography projects of the 1930s and 1940s. Gruber then considers photographer Sol Libsohn’s work on the Southern Railway. William J. Watt concludes this issue with a look at the artwork on railroad bonds.
